Ms. Paula asks:
How do you feel about dog parks? Do you go to one regularly.
Mother:
I am a bit nervous about dog parks since I have heard a few "biting" stories. However, we do attend "Frenchie" meetups. Everyone watches their pups really well since some are "bullies" and like to herd the group. Lily is not a big fan. If the Frenchies start snorting she likes to "mouth" them but never bit or nipped. When we attend we always meet in the small dog area. So far so good, no major incidents. I would never bring the pups to a large dog/general area. I guess its all a matter of opinion. But thanks for inquiring.
We admit admit we don't like dog parks - our vet says they are the unhealthiest place to take dogs - followed by pet stores.
ReplyDeleteEdgar is not allowed to go anymore...he kept getting into fights :(
ReplyDeleteEdgar's mum
mom says the hard part about dog parks is some owners :) love the header
ReplyDeleteWell dog parks is what we do being townies and it is OK most of the time. Have a fabulous Friday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
I agree with Reilly&Denny, it's probably not a really good or clean place. We have no dog parks in our area and I'm not sure if we would visit one, if we could...
ReplyDeleteEasy Rider
We stay away from "off-leash" dog parks. Mainly because you never know what you'll get. Some dogs will "play nice", while others want to dominate and play aggressively. It's kind of like walking into a bar in a unfamiliar part of town. Want to take your chances? Hmmm...maybe not. Let's go.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have any up here...but they were hit and miss in Austin. Some were very good (clean, separate small dog/big dog areas), some...not so much.

We've never been to a dog park before. The thought of them makes our mom nervous.
ReplyDeleteLove ya lots♥

Dog parks might frighten me too with the biting/behavior. Great idea about just Frenchie meet ups, it must be fun!
ReplyDeleteI love dogs, all kinds of dogs but I was attacked by a police dog when I was very young and that image has stuck. Being confined in an area with big dogs is my worst nightmare. I had a rather large dog come into my yard while I was walking my blind weiner dog around and I literally had a panic attack and went through hog wire (dog in arms) to escape my back yard. The dog was a beauty, a Mastiff. I still have scars from that hog wire! So, no I too will not be going to a dog park.
ReplyDeleteFreya's lucky she's one of the pack around the park at the back of our cottage. Even luckier as she never has far to walk. But even we have the odd hair ball dog there. Not so bad if their owners keep them on a leash and under control. On the whole, I think it's a good thing, Any thing that helps paws to socialize is a good thing. x Freya Rose Blossom's mum x
ReplyDeleteOH MOTHER MY MOM AGREES WITH YOU...I THINK IT IS BEST TO STICK TO YOUR OWN SIZE PUP TOO...NOT THAT I SHOULD HAVE AN OPINION SINCE I'M A CAT..BUT IT MAKES SENSE. AT LEAST EVERYONE AT THE FRENCHIE GATHERINGS KNOW THE BREED WELL
ReplyDeleteHUGS MADI A CAT NOT A DOG BUT ALWAYS HAS AN OPINION
MOL
I love dog parks - love meeting other dogs, so long as they're not too big or ferocious. I'm a little rat terrier. Mum doesn't take me to the dog park much, thought. She says there is too much broken glass and poop. Dog peeps evidently don't clean up after their dogs very well. This makes me sad, because I would really like to go.
ReplyDeleteBella (With a little help from mum)
PS: neither of us writes in our blog.
We love going to dog parks but just to walk around ... a bit fuzzy about other dogs that sniffs too much (had a very bad incidents). We are very careful what dog parks to go too. Golden Woofs
ReplyDeleteI avoid dog parks as well. I've had too many encounters with people who don't understand dog interaction and can't control their pets. A Frenchie meetup sounds great for your two since it will be populated by people who are very focused on their dogs (at least I hope so). Dex gets his dog playtime fix at daycare.
ReplyDeleteMango Momma
I always worry about strange dogs not being friendly. We have a dog park on the other side of town but we have never gone
ReplyDeleteWe have always avoided dog parks ...both with Pip and Ruby.
ReplyDeleteWe have been to a couple of Dawg Parks... they were all FINE... butt we were not there at the BUSY times... We guess it is better than NOTHING... and a GOOD one would be super to have for visits.
ReplyDeleteHi there, The only time Hunter has gone to a dog park was when we knew the other dog in it. He's been attacked three times in our old neighborhood and so now we just walk with our friends. Our new neighborhood is very nice and we love having a Bichon across the street.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
Wags,
Noreen & Hunter
We do have to be very careful where we are, there are too many people with vicious dogs, a sort of macho thing. But there are also some very lovely dog owners, we assess every dog before Leah's allowed to go up to make friends with them, she loves other dogs and we like her to socialise
ReplyDeleteIm with you on dog parks Im not a huge fan. WE go on occasion with lots of care and only with Weasley as he enjoys them
ReplyDeleteretro rover
OMD, I would probably start somethin'! BOL!!! I have never been to one, and Ma says I never will cause I got something called 'attitude'....pfffft! Whatevers. I don't like other doggies poopies anyhu! ☺
ReplyDeleteKisses,
Ruby ♥
I agree about caution being very necessary. K could handle dog parks because she was very good at diffusing any potentially bad situations with bully dogs. Shyla, well, she's a little too scared to enjoy dog parks. And R just barks his head off when he's in one!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of a meet-up at one where you know that the dogs will be well-supervised.
Dog parks can make our lady nervous too! Before we live a million miles from the city, I took Hailey to a small park near our house. There are two great parks in the city that use to be quarries and have great trails. They make lady less nervous since they are so open.n
ReplyDeleteWe don't have any dog parks so I don't know if I would like them. I'm pretty over-protective of my boys. ☺
ReplyDeleteSince I try to start fights, I don't go.
ReplyDeleteYour timing couldn't be better! You might want to read Dakota's blog today! http://dakotasden.net/2014/12/19/true-tails-from-the-dog-park-by-max-luther/
ReplyDeleteWe go to the river where it is a free-for-all. sometimes we get into fights, but they're short and no injuries....then it's back to playing.
ReplyDeleteI'm one proud mama. I'm happy to say that Chooey can hold her own with other tiny dogs. She's really brave and she doesn't mess with others as long as they don't mess with her.
ReplyDeleteWe have only been to a couple that have been small ones. The ones that they have in RV Parks that we have stayed in. We are only allowed to go in them if there are no other dogs in there. We are not really comfortable there though...
ReplyDeleteHey Lily & Edward!
ReplyDeleteWow, I think it's so fun that you have your meet-ups! Looks like a lot of frenchie fun to me. I've never gotten to do this because I tend to try to bash everyone. *sigh*.
Grr and Woof,
Sarge, Police Commish
We only go to certain dog parks and just a few times a month at most. We never go evenings and weekends when the are real crowded.
ReplyDeleteJan says she would not take us to a dog park if we had one here because of things she has read about them, and also because she says we play too rough.
ReplyDeleteI don't like dog parks either. The only time I go in ours if its empty or with just one dog that I know. Love Dolly
