GIVE CANCER THE PAW!!
May 27, 2007 - October 24, 2013
I always said this is my Benny boy, he is so healthy.
Suddenly out of nowhere he did not feel like eating.
Hmmm....my Benny lives for his food.
Our lives were suddenly turned upside down on June 14, 2013.
Benny started panting late that evening.
The next four months we were talking about the "C"...
Cancer. Cancer was part of our daily vocabulary.
Liver cancer?
Can't be....Lymphoma?
We'll fight Benny.
We will FIGHT
Like a Frenchie.
I felt in my heart and through all of you....
we needed to fight.
Never for one minute would we have ever let Benny suffer.
The ER Doc agreed..."if he makes it through this evening
its worth the fight."
He is our miracle boy.
We enjoyed ever second together.
He taught us to slow down and appreciate what you have....
YOU were constantly there for us.
My boy fought like a Tiny Super Hero.
He was made a special cape.
The local paper even published a story.
Our Oncologist was suddenly a friend...always positive,
smiling and
upfront about Benny's prognosis.
We received our Fight Like A Frenchie bandanas from
Murray Muffin who IS fighting.
Every day in the mail you sent Benny gifts, money, cards....
We started a Go Fund Me page because so many of you here and on Facebook wanted to give and give.
We walked and will walk again for the
UNITE TO FIGHT
It is extremely difficult writing this post....
I miss Benny so much.
Is it "nutty" to say I still talk to him?
Well we are nutty then....
Would I do it again?
Yes.
As long as there was no suffering involved.
My heart broke on October 24, 2013 at 2:04 p.m.
In my arms he physically left...
Run free my boy...you are definitely here with us
XO XO
Benny will never be forgotten...a little super hero indeed.
ReplyDeleteAn inspiring super hero. He made a big difference in the time that he had.
ReplyDeleteI think about Benny often and send him warm thoughts to the Rainbow Bridge. He was an inspiration!
ReplyDeleteOf course it's not nutty to still talk to him. I never knew any of you except through this blog and his FB page and I cried so much when I heard he had passed, but how lucky he was to pass in Momma's arms, surrounded by love. And he was loved so much!!!!
ReplyDeleteThere are still days that I look back at pics of him (and I'm sure I'm not the only fan of his that will read back over stories of him and Lily and look at photos) because we all understand that it can happen to anyone.
We lost Chucky a month ago and like you, it seemed like suddenly he wasn't well (after a period of him doing better than ever despite his 11 years). It wasn't Cancer but his heart was just too big (frenchies have just sooo much love in them I think this is why his heart got bigger ;-) )
We also tried to help him but when we realised that all of it wasn't working we knew that it was kinder to not let him suffer at all. And he was ready to go, he gave signs of it. He was a true frenchie to the end - stubborn ;-)
I have his photos beside me, his stick & blanket and bunny who were his constant companions, his urn and a photo tribute to him and I will always talk to him.
And I think of all the other frenchies who I read about that went beforehim and after (and all other pets too) and imagine that they all found each other at Rainbow bride and are telling each other how their family's talked about each and everyone of them.
*hugs to you all*
Thank you. You obviously understand
DeleteCrying all over again for your beautiful boy, Andrea.

We agree give the evil C the paw. Lovely tribute to Benny and he is greatly missed by all. Gone but not forgotten sweet boy.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
Yes, I remember Benny well. He was such a joy. This is a great tribute. The evil C will get hundreds and thousands of paws!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you show that big C the paw. Benny is the hero of my heart forever.
ReplyDeleteBenny, you gave us a gift - every time we see a Frenchie, we think of you! We hope youp're up there at the bridge rompin' with our Gizmo. Sending hugs.

My moms eyes and ours are all misty....Benny taught us so much, and in his own way lives strong in each one of us. thank you for sharing this post andrea.
ReplyDeletestella rose and momma
We miss you Benny! My Mum is crying now :( But you're right, he did teach us all to remember what's really important and enjoy every day!
ReplyDeleteWe love you Benny Buddy!
Your pal Snoopy :)
We think of Benny too. We love that picture of Lily dressed up doing the walk with Edward.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing this tribute to Benny on Give Cancer the Paw. I was hoping you would, although I know how difficult it must have been to write. Like so many Benny fans, I felt connected with him, I enjoyed his outfits, his humor, his love of life through you. And I felt his loss as well. I cried. But I take comfort in knowing that he lived life well, and fought like a Frenchie. Thank you for sharing Lily and Edward with us as well. After we lost Brooks to cancer, it helped to have Ike in the house, as well as Kelly. But there is only one Brooks. And only one Benny. They are in heaven together, with so many other wonderful dogs. Big hugs to you.
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting this blog hop. Bet Brooks and Benny are causing a ruckus up there
DeleteThis is absolutely a beautiful post full of hope and love. We will never ever forget Benny...he taught us so much about appreciating the here and now. Not at all crazy to talk to Benny...after our first cat, Milky-Way, passed we both experienced events in the house that seemed like he had come to visit. We heard digging in the box that wasn't there and saw shadows...our theory was MW came back to say all is well and thank you for loving me for 14.5 years.
ReplyDeleteHugs Cecilia aka Madi's mom
thinking of Benny and remembering good times
ReplyDeleteWe know the pain you're feeling. We lost Py, Monty and Tsar to cancer and now Fudge is starting his fight. We think of Benny often and what a tough, sweet little guy he was.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely tribute post! Heading to fetch some tissues now...
ReplyDeleteNot nutty at all. I lost my precious frenchie, Anjou, just days before your Benny (and her birthday was days before his). Still love her, miss her, and talk to her everyday. And I'm pretty sure she talks to our new frenchie, and shows him the ropes. :)
ReplyDeleteSuch a precious boy. Everytime I look at my Ralphie, I see Benny. God bless you for loving that little boy the way you did. There is nothing more heartbreaking than losing one of these little guys. Because of you, I now have pet health insurance.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
You are not nutty at all. I just lost my beautiful kitty, Stray the day after Easter and I will always love and miss her so much, so I know your pain. She is buried in my backyard with my other cat that passed in 2006. They will always be our babies and I'm sure that we will see them again one day.
ReplyDeleteHugs to all of you
ReplyDeleteWe will always remember Benny and the lessons he taught us. I guess we are all nutty, I talk to my kids at the bridge all the time.
ReplyDeletesending lots of hugs

Oh, not nutty at all! I'm sure you miss him so much. The whole first year is so hard. I know this must have been a difficult post to write. Benny was a such a sweetie and a great fighter! Thanks for joining the hop.
ReplyDeleteWe think this is a BEAUTIFUL Tribute Post to our BUDDY BENNY.
ReplyDelete.......
We say.... TALK TO THE PAW... you vile evil "C" monster.
Your Benny was diagnosed just before our Moses was. Moses only made it a few days, and died on June 24th. I followed Benny's story and am glad that at least you had more time with him, but still, I know it wasn't enough. You both put up a good fight. I wasn't able to write about Moses yet, even reading this about your Benny is making me cry.
ReplyDeleteWe will never forget the Frenchie, and now he has Edward to watch over. We know each pup we have had watches over ours every day. The remembering is what makes life grand!
ReplyDeleteThe Mad Scots
And our tears too continue to flow...... We miss you Benny!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Lily Belle & Muffin
I'm so sorry to hear about Benny. It sounds like both of you fought like champions until the end. I lost a German shepherd to a liver cancer called Hemangiosarcoma. We also had 4 months of priceless time together before the oncologist explained that he wouldn't make it to the next appointment. The doctor was right and we still miss Bear every day.
ReplyDeleteWow, this is such a sweet post about our beloved Benny. I think everyone in Blogville thinks of him often and still misses him bunches. My pack definitely does. Sending warm hugs to you as we all share your memories of him.
ReplyDeleteGrr and Woof,
Sarge, Furiend
I feel so lucky to have known him through your blog. I will never forget him. What a brave dog he was. I miss him too. He really touched my heart.

Benny lives in the hearts of MANY!
ReplyDeleteYour Pals,
Murphy & Stanley
We too miss Benny so much. We could substitute for his name in your post Thunder - our lives paralleled each other so closely, almost to the day for the start of the symptoms. We didn't have the chance to let Thunder fight like Benny did - his cancer was too far gone. We have so much admiration for what you did for Benny and for how hard he fought the good fight. You can always take solace inknowing that you did EVERYTHING you could possibly have done for your sweet boy Benny.
ReplyDeleteHugs and Woos - Phantom, Ciara, and Lightning and Mom Kathie
I still cry for Benny and for Zoie and for Bambi and for--------- on and on!!! Life is hard!!!! Life is hard some times!!
ReplyDeleteTears and snot just a flowing here. I think it's because we can all relate to losing a fur family member. It is amazing what love and joy they bring to our lives and I'm so grateful for the time that I had them in my life. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteAroo to you,
Sully and Robin
What a great tribute - Benny were a special pup!
ReplyDeleteOh, what a lovely postie. I love it! It made Ma's eyes all wet again.
ReplyDeleteBenny will always be in all our hearts. He truly touched everyone who met, read, saw or heard about him. He continues to bring smiles and joy to people even from the Bridge. This is his legacy.
{{{{hugs}}}} to you and Lily

Ruby ♥♥
